Learn how to fuse glass and create one-of-a-kind art and jewelry pieces. I will be teaching classes at the Bergstrom Mahler Museum of Glass in Neenah, and the Trout Museum of Art in Appleton this spring and summer.

Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass Classes:

Open Weave Glass Basketsbasket
Create a basket out of glass! Students will create a 7” fused glass basket from layers of colorful glass strips. Baskets will be fused and slumped into an open weave shape perfect for a display or for holding breads at your dinner table.
All experience levels welcome.

Earth-Day-Recycled-Glass-Fun-WEBEarth Day Recycled Glass Fun
Come with the whole family and celebrate Earth Day by using recycled glass to create beautiful one-of-a-kind work of glass art. You will make a bottle flower pot to plant a seed, use recycled window glass to create a sun catcher and see how to cut a glass bottle into pieces to be re-purposed. Special considerations when using recycled glass will be discussed and you will go home with a lot more knowledge about recycled glass and how you can make it into an art masterpiece. Pieces will be fused in our kiln after class and available for pick-up at a later date. This is a drop-in activity. Please arrive before 11:30am so you will have enough time to finish your project.

Reactive Glass
When adding sterling silver foil to kiln formed glass, a variety of surprising effects can occur. Students will learn how to create subtle or strong reactions in glass using silver foil and reactive glass, and how to incorporate foil when designing a fused glass piece.
All experience levels welcome.

Wine Bottle Hanging Lanterns
Bring a wine bottle to the museum and make it into a hanging lantern for your garden or patio. You will learn the process of bottle cutting using a scoring tool, a candle and a bucket of ice water. We will discuss several ways to create art from recycled bottles and students will learn how to wire their bottle into a candle holder. Cheese and wine will be provided. Please remove labels prior to class.  All experience levels welcome.

Glass garden art

Fused Glass Garden Art
Add a bit of color to your garden this year with a piece of fused glass art. Students will create a piece of yard art mounted on a metal stake perfect for a flower pot or garden. All experience levels welcome.

Survey Glass Class
Try a bit of everything. You will have a chance to try flameworking, fusing, and glass enameling all in one class. We will create a fused piece of art, learning the basic properties of fused glass. Basic beadmaking on a torch while adding color and surface decoration will also be covered.

Wine Bottle Slumping
Do you have a glass bottle that you would like to preserve in a unique way? Come and learn about glass bottles, glass fusing and slumping, while enjoying an evening of wine and cheese at the museum.  Bring a clean glass bottle to be slumped into a tray or condiment dish. (Remove label prior to class.) The bottle will be fused in our kiln after class and available for pick-up up at a later date.

Metal Clay and Fused Glass Pendant
Create a beautiful pendant combining silver metal clay and glass. The basics of working with precious metal clay (PMC) will be introduced, including shaping, texturing, drying, kiln firing, and finishing. Students will shape silver clay to create a setting for a piece of fused dichroic glass. All experience levels welcome.

Recycled Glass Buttons
Visit the museum and make up to five buttons out of colorful bits and pieces of glass. We will provide the glass and you will learn to cut and layer several bits of glass to create your own buttons. After your pieces are fired in our kiln, we will attach a button fastener or pin on the back in order for you to attach them to a garment or wear for decoration. The pieces will be fused in our kiln after class and available for pick-up up at a later date. Shipping is available for an additional cost. Cheese and wine will be provided.
All experience levels welcome.

Frit Slurry Painting
Blend frit and glass to create a colorful painted dish, even if you have no prior experience with painting. Colorful slurries made of frit and water will be blended to create a tie-dyed, marbleized or watercolor look on glass.
All experience levels welcome.

Metal Clay Jewelry
